McGill's 2020-2025 Climate & Sustainability Strategy
McGill is entering a new and exciting chapter of sustainability on campus. Vision 2020 – McGill’s Climate & Sustainability Action Plan – is ending in December 2020. The McGill Office of Sustainability (MOOS) is leading a consultation process to help craft the Next Climate & Sustainability Strategy. This next strategy will cover a 5-year span and touch on 8 different key areas of sustainability: buildings & utilities, waste management, travel and commuting, procurement, landscapes & ecosystems, food systems, research & education and governance. For more information on the Climate & Sustainability Strategy categories click here.
The next Climate & Sustainability Strategy 2020-2025 will also continue to work toward the two long-term targets set out in Vision 2020: Carbon Neutrality by 2040 and a STARS Platinum Sustainability Rating by 2030. In addition to the long-term goals we continue to strive to minimize our climate impact while increasing our adaptive capacity. To emphasize the importance of this in the 2020-2025 Strategy, climate mitigation and adaptation will be at the heart of the eight aforementioned categories.
Our guiding principles, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Community Engagement, are the foundational pillars in which we choose to anchor our practice of sustainability and climate action. These principles define our framework of action and help orient the content throughout this strategy. By creating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive practice that focuses on the power of community engagement the foundation is set to achieve major changes.
MOOS invites the McGill community share their thoughts on how to continue fostering a culture of sustainability on campus as it takes all of our voices to shape this movement. Add your contributions by filling out our virtual form or scheduling a 1-on-1 call.
